The Emperor Butterfly is one of various rare butterflies available in Animal Crossing: Wild World, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, yet remained absent from the original.

[edit] How to Catch

The Emperor Butterfly can commonly be found flying throughout the air at any point in your Town as well as resting on certain flowers that have been planted(it is not yet certain if it prefers particular breeds). Since it is a rarer butterfly, it tends to fly noticably faster than the common breeds of butterfly(such a thing is so for obvious reason).

[edit] Player

This is what your player says when you catch a Emperor Butterfly:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

"I caught an emperor butterfly! It's blue... it's royal!"

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

I caught an emperor butterfly! Such royal beauty!

[edit] Menu

When looking at the Emperor Butterfly in the bug menu it will say this:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

Their wings are iridescent, like the back of a CD.

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

Their wings appear to be blue on one side, but quite plain on the other.

[edit] Museum

If you donate an Emperor Butterfly to the Museum, Blathers will say this:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

"Hoo. Ah. What have we here? An emperor, if I'm not utterly mistaken? Ah, no, please, don't bother taking it out of its cage! Protocols, you know, wot? I'm a but squeamish about insects, you see, and I don't fancy touching one."

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

"The emperor butterfly's beautiful blue markings make it a popular gift in certain parts of the world. Hoo, yes, wonderful gift... Such gift givers should have their heads examined, I should think..."

[edit] Real Life

An Emperor Butterfly in real life

In real life, the Emperor Butterfly is a natural local of South and Central America. It can easily be seen as a type of cannibal since it’s diet consists of the other larvae of it’s own species during it’s own matured larval stage, while it’s adult diet mainly consists of fruit.
