Joan is a boar that visits your town to try and sell you her precious merchandise - turnips. She has made an appearance in all of the Animal Crossing games.
 Animal Crossing Games Role
Joan needs some money to make it on her own, so she has decided to start growing her own white turnips and she also decided to stock red turnip seeds in her inventory as well. She is not associated with a business and is out all on her own, trying to make a living by doing what she loves.
 When does she come?
Joan will appear every Sunday. She will come at 6:00am sharp, and will leave will leave at exactly 12:00pm. If you do not buy your turnips within that time frame, you will either have to time travel back to the right time, or if you do not condone that then you will have to wait until next Sunday to see Joan again.
 Where will she be?
Joan will be wandering around your town. She can be anywhere. If you have any difficultly finding her, make sure to check behind obstacles such as trees and sign posts, as she may be unintentionally hiding from you. She will never be in any buildings or houses, which is always good to know.
Joan will sell two types of turnips to you.
Joan will always have an unlimited supply of white turnips. Make sure that you take the amount of money that you would like to spend with you when you go and find Joan. These turnips will be sold to you in bundles of one hundred. Each hundred takes up an inventory space, so you can only buy 1,500 turnips at a time. You need to make sure that the price that you bought the turnips from Joan is fair and you also need keep track of it. A good price is anything below 100 Bells per turnip. Not that you've bought them, you need to wait and keep checking with Tom Nook to see if his turnip prices are higher than when you bought them from Joan. If they are, you can go ahead and sell them if you feel it is a decent price. If not, you must keep checking everyday. While you wait, you may store your turnips on the ground or in your house. You can also visit your friend's towns and check their turnip prices to see if they are better then yours. If they are, you can bring them over to the town and sell them to Nook with your friend's permission.
 Red Turnip Seeds
This seed will cost 1,000 Bells to buy from Joan. Once you obtain it, get your shovel out and dig a hole. Then, face the hole and open your pockets menu. Select the red turnip seed and choose the option 'Bury'. Your red turnip should now be in the ground. Now, get out your watering can and water the red turnip. You need to do this every day for the next six days or else the red turnip will wilt in the ground. After six full days of watering, dig the turnip out of the ground and sell it to Nook. It will be worth 16,000 Bells, gaining you a profit of 15,000 Bells.
- In Animal Crossing: City Folk, you can use the silver watering can to revive a dead red turnip. This will only work if it is the day that the red turnip wilted, however.
 Spoiled Turnips
White turnips will spoil if you time travel. Even if you time travel an hour ahead of time, your turnips will still spoil. In Animal Crossing: Wild World, there is a glitch. If you put your white turnips on a table and time traveled, they will not spoil. However, this does not work in any other Animal Crossing game.
 Red Turnip Seeds
The red turnip will spoil if you forget to water it. It will appear wilted the next day. The only way to fix this is in the game Animal Crossing: City Folk. As mentioned, all you need to do is water the wilted red turnip with the silver watering can the day it spoils.
Joan is a hard worker. She tries her best at everything she does, and because of this she runs a successful business. She is rather old. You can tell this is true because of the way that her voice is gruff and low. Her voice is one of the only original voices that is not used with other animals. Joan loves to have a good chat once in a while, but most of the time she likes to cut to the chase and not explain things over and over again.
Joan wears a white and blue hat that she designed herself. She has plus signs for eyes, a big snout, and rosy cheeks. Her tusks stick out right above her mouth. Joan wears a light blue top along with matching plaid shorts that alternate in dark blue and white colors. On her back is a weave basket filled with white turnips.
- In Animal Crossing, you can see Joan sleeping on the train.
