This painting is based upon Las Meninas which is Spanish for The Maids of Honour. It was painted by Diego Velázquez in 1656 and is currently on display in Museo del Prado in Madrid. It is a very dark but extremely detailed painting that features a young Princess surrounded by her maids of honour and chaperones in a large beautiful room in the Madrid palace of King Philip IV of Spain. It had also been hailed as one of the most important paintings in Western art history.
