The Tarantula is a rare bug first introduced in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

[edit] How to Catch

The Tarantula is one of the most difficult bugs to catch because it is fast and attacks you. The only time it will come after you is if you have your net out, so it is best to stand away from it if your net is up. If the Tarantula does attack, it will chase you at the same speed of your run and when it eventually catches up to you it will bite you and you'll be sent to your home. When your character is attacked the Tarantula will disappear from where it was and you will have to wait and find another.

To actually catch the Tarantula the best strategy is to stand far away from the Tarantula, face it, equip the net, wait for it to run at you, and swing the net at the right time.

[edit] Player

This is what you player says when you catch a Tarantula:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

I caught a Tarantula! Don't try this at home!

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

I caught a tarantula! I don't wanna-arm wrestle this guy!

[edit] Menu

This is what the menu will say when you catch a Tarantula:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

Their poison isn't potent enough to be lethal, but their belly hair causes itchiness

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

The belly hairs these use to fire poison cause more itchiness than the poison itself.

[edit] Museum

If you donate this bug to the Museum, Blathers will say this:

[edit] Animal Crossing: Wild World

''Hoo my! It's simply amazing that you were able to catch one of these monsters... Not only is it poisonous, it's as hairy as can be... Blech! Hairy and toxic... Is there any combination more vile?"

[edit] Animal Crossing: City Folk

"Hoo, such foul fuzziness! And have you seen how fast they move? It's enough to make an owl faint. They're quite docile beasts, and it's documented that they rarely attack people... But when I look at them up close like this, I start to wonder if the experts might be wrong, eh wot?!"

[edit] Trivia

  • The exact scientific name of Animal Crossing's Tarantula is unknown.
  • The Bee, Scorpion, Mosquito and Tarantula are the only bugs that can harm your character.

[edit] Real Life

The Tarantula is a predator bug that can be very dangerous because of its venom. Its name originated from the town Toranto in Southern Italy. The tarantula uses it sense of touch to its advantage, feeling the vibrations in the ground to protect itself and also to hunt for prey.
