Reason for Receiving

There was no official reason for receiving the tokonama, such as previous DLC where there was a major holiday or event. It was distributed by Nintendo to their Japanese players to make their house feel more like their real life house and to allow them to customize their house in a unique way.

Real Life

In real life, a Tokonoma is basically a alcove used to store things such as bonsai, books, flowers. The word 'toko' literally means "floor" or "bed"; 'ma' means "space" or "room."
